Chocolate Sea Salt banana ice cream recipe is an easy and healthy homemade frozen dessert made completely dairy-free and gluten-free! This recipe is topped with chunks of chocolate and even fruit to make the best sweet, all natural dessert. It’s simple, easy, and so tasty.

What is nice cream?

Let’s start off by breaking down what nice cream really is. At its most basic, nice cream is frozen bananas that have been blended up into a creamy soft serve ice cream. It can be made with simple ingredients (and seriously just frozen blended bananas!) but you can also add in tons of other ingredients to customize it to your liking.

It’s a vegan, dairy-free, preservative-free, and often refined sugar free version of traditional ice cream. And it’s really freaking good.

We use the terms banana ice cream and nice cream pretty interchangeably here, so consider them both the same.

If this is the only dessert I eat for the rest of my life, I’ll be ok!

Whenever summer hits, I crave all things cold and all things sweet. Especially this summer, it’s going to be so hot that I’ll seriously crave ice cream every single day. While there are quite a few good dairy free ice cream alternatives on the market, I still love to create my own. I love how easy and simple I can make it without adding a bunch of ingredients I don’t necessarily love.

If I have to eat one dessert for the rest of my life, let it be this chocolate sea salt banana ice cream, also known as ‘nice cream’. This dairy-free take on traditional ice cream is so incredibly creamy and sweet from natural ingredients that you wouldn’t even know it was made with healthy ingredients.

So the base of this recipe is really just three simple ingredients. And you can stop there if you want, but we think adding in the chocolate and the sea salt is key.

Another best part about it? The icing on the cake some may say? It is a no-churn recipe. Yup, you just throw everything into a food processor or blender and boom. DONE.

Ingredients in chocolate sea salt nice cream

While basic nice cream doesn’t have too many added ingredients, this recipe is a little extra special because we wanted to jazz it up a little bit. We decided it would be a good idea to add cacao and extra sea salt to add even more flavor and make this nice cream recipe even more unique. Here’s what you need:

  • Frozen bananas

  • Almond butter

  • Almond milk

  • Cacao powder

  • Honey

  • Sea salt

How to make banana ice cream

Making nice cream is easy. It’s simple and it’s perfect for people who want no-churn ice cream. Trust me on this one!

Chop bananas into chunks and freeze overnight

Add the frozen bananas with the other ingredients into a food processor and blend until smooth. The mixture should resemble a thick smoothie

Pour the mixture into a lined loaf pan or ice cream tray (if you have one) and smooth out the top

Freeze overnight

When you’re ready to eat it, take it out of the freezer for a little and let it defrost. Use an ice cream scooper and enjoy!
