Healthy cold brew banana ice cream recipe is an easy and healthy homemade frozen dessert made completely dairy-free and gluten-free! This recipe is topped with a mini chocolate chips for even more sweetness and full of smooth cold brew for the best, all natural dessert. It’s simple, easy, and so tasty. No baking, no long list of ingredients, you’re going to be shocked at just how easy this recipe is.

What is nice cream?

Let’s start off by breaking down what nice cream really is. At its most basic, nice cream is frozen bananas that have been blended up into a creamy soft serve ice cream. It can be made with simple ingredients (and seriously just frozen blended bananas!) but you can also add in tons of other ingredients to customize it to your liking.

It’s a vegan, dairy-free, preservative-free, and often refined sugar free version of traditional ice cream. And it’s really freaking good.

We use the terms banana ice cream and nice cream pretty interchangeably here, so consider them both the same.

If this is the only dessert I eat for the rest of my life, I’ll be ok!

Whenever summer hits, I crave all things cold and all things sweet. Especially this summer, it’s going to be so hot that I’ll seriously crave ice cream every single day. While there are quite a few good dairy free ice cream alternatives on the market, I still love to create my own. I love how easy and simple I can make it without adding a bunch of ingredients I don’t necessarily love.

If I have to eat one dessert for the rest of my life, let it be this banana ice cream, also known as ‘nice cream’. This dairy-free take on traditional ice cream is so incredibly creamy and sweet from natural ingredients that you wouldn’t even know it was made with healthy ingredients. I love customizing each batch I make to get the exact flavor, texture, and add ins that I’m craving.

So the base of this recipe is really just three simple ingredients. And you can stop there if you want, but we think adding in the chocolate chips in this recipe is key.

Another best part about it? The icing on the cake some may say? It is a no-churn recipe. Yup, you just throw everything into a food processor or blender and boom. DONE.

Ingredients in healthy cold brew nice cream

While basic nice cream doesn’t have too many added ingredients, this recipe is a little extra special because we wanted to jazz it up a little bit. We decided it would be a good idea to add cold brew rather than almond milk to add even more flavor and make this nice cream recipe even more unique. Here’s what you need:

  • Frozen bananas

  • Almond butter

  • Cold Brew Concentrate

  • Mini Chocolate Chips

  • Maple syrup

  • Vanilla

  • Sea salt

How to make banana ice cream

Making nice cream is easy. It’s simple and it’s perfect for people who want no-churn ice cream. Trust me on this one!

Chop bananas into chunks and freeze overnight.

Add the frozen bananas with the other ingredients (leave out the chocolate chips for now) into a food processor and blend until smooth. The mixture should resemble a thick smoothie. Once it’s nice, smooth, and thick, pour in the chocolate chips and hand mix them into the nice cream.

Pour the mixture into a lined loaf pan or ice cream tray (if you have one) and smooth out the top. Sprinkle extra chocolate chips right on top.

Freeze overnight.

When you’re ready to eat it, take it out of the freezer for a little and let it defrost. Use an ice cream scooper and enjoy! Top with whatever you like. I recommend a dairy free whipped cream or a melted chocolate drizzle…

Banana ice cream add ins

I love banana ice cream because it’s homemade which makes it easy customizable. Are you craving something with a little extra crunch? Add some crushed almonds or walnuts! Want something with chocolate? Add in chocolate chips or drizzle melted chocolate right on top. Here are some extra options for you, but the list is endless:

  • Almonds, walnuts, any crushed nuts

  • Rainbow sprinkles

  • Fruit chunks

  • Whipped cream on top

  • Cinnamon
