I’m not usually a savory recipe gal, but I have been feeling them recently. I like to mix it up in the kitchen and challenge myself to making something I never have before. I combined two of my favorite things to make this recipe: bread and hummus. These gluten free treats make the perfect addition to any meal or can be the best on the go snack. They’re best when they’re fresh, but meal prepping them is great too. Hope you guys like them and, as always, let me know if you have any questions! Happy Baking 🙂
Ingredients
For the Dough
- 3 eggs
- 5 tbsp applesauce
- 3/4 cup coconut flour
- 1/2 cup almond flour
- 3/4 cup arrowroot flour
- 1/4 cup tapioca flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 cup water
For the Filling
- 1 tbsp hummus per bun
Instructions
- Combine all wet ingredients for the dough first. Mix well
- Add in the dry and break apart any clumps to create a smooth and even batter. The batter will be thick so use your hands towards the end to “knead” the dough and evenly distribute the ingredients
- Separate the dough into about 6 or 7 even little balls
- Take one piece, flatten it out, fill the center with 1 tbsp hummus and then carefully close the edges of the flat dough around the hummus. Once you have wrapped the edges around the hummus, gently roll the dough into a ball to seal the hummus inside and prevent leaking
- Repeat step 4 until you have filled each bun with hummus
- Place on a non stick baking tray and bake for about 15-20 minutes or until the edges and tops become golden brown. The tops may crack a little, but that’s ok!
- Let them cool and enjoy
