A delicious just for one dessert

I’ve always been obsessed with mug cakes; there are so many reasons to love these treats. For one, they require no baking at all. You just throw all the ingredients in a mug, mix them together, and microwave for a couple minutes. There’s no preheating the oven or having to wait a long time. How easy is that? Which leads me into another microwave mug cake positive: NO MESS. Like I said, all you need is a mug to mix your ingredients in and a fork to mix it with. It’s so easy and takes only a couple of minutes.

The next best thing about microwave mug cakes is that they require very little ingredients. No need to measure out 2 cups of flour or head to the grocery store to replenish your ingredients because, odds are, you already have the perfect amount of ingredients for this recipe.

Single serve microwave mug cakes are easy, clean, and simple to make. This double chocolate mug cake is so good, you’ll forget it’s gluten and dairy free. It makes for the best post dinner dessert or mid day sweet snack. Hope y’all love this healthy recipe as much as I do. Happy no baking lol 🙂

Kitchen tools used to make this easy dessert

To make this mug cake, you’ll only need 2 items! First, you’ll need a big, microwave safe mug and a mixing utensil. That’s it! Seriously 🙂

How to make a healthy mug chocolate cake

This mug cake dessert is very easy to make and requires nothing more than a bit of mixing and microwaving. In total, you can expect prep time to require about 10 minutes. When all is said and done, you’ll have 1 delicious, chocolatey mug cake!

In a large mug or a small mixing bowl, mash your 1/2 banana.

Add in your egg, applesauce, honey, vanilla, and almond butter and mix super well to create your wet mixture.

Add in the dry ingredients: coconut flour and baking soda and mix super well.

Finally, add in a dash of chocolate chips and mix well!

Microwave in a microwave safe mug or small bowl for about 2 minutes or until your cake is nice and fluffy. Top with extra chocolate chips and a dash of sea salt and enjoy.

Substitution options for this mug cake

I’m often asked about ingredient substitutions. Below are some easy swaps! Feel free to try any that you’d like, noting that there are a few that may change the taste a bit (such as using applesauce in place of your eggs).

  • Applesauce: Applesauce can be replaced with coconut oil and canola, almond, or vegetable oil, or any similar fat.

  • Almond butter: You can use any nut butter in this recipe. If you don’t use a chocolate almond butter like I did, this won’t be a double chocolate cake, but still really good!

  • Chocolate chips: Substitute chocolate chips with the mix-in of your choice. You could use white or caramel chips, chopped candies, or whatever you’d like!

  • Eggs: For a vegan chocolate mug cake, you’ll need to substitute the egg. To replace the one egg in this recipe, you can use 1/4 cup of applesauce, or try using chia seeds. With the seeds, make one chia egg and let sit until the water is absorbed, about 10 minutes.
